My work is about a sense of longing, a yearning for connection, which is contrasted by an existential distance between people and each other as well as with the natural world. I am interested in a kind of awkwardness that arises from this disconnection – manifest in the interactions between people and their environments as well as the manner in which natural motifs are used in adornment and decoration. The characters – people and objects – in these images move around and near each other, attempting a type of unity and fusion, but remain separate and autonomous. I am interested in examining how what is familiar can also be mysterious and alien.
